Katarina Island: 100 meters away from the town center, and very easy to reach by taxi-boats that leave every hour from the little pier (harbour Delfin). On the island there are beaches, flowery parks, olive trees, and paths.

It’s so easy to find a nice and affordable place to eat here. I went to La Vela for dinner which was great, however any place will do!
30 minutes away from Pula is another one of Croatia’s best kept secrets: Rovinj. To get to Rovinj, I used the local transit system. This quaint little town had so much to offer, and I wish I had been able to stay a little longer. I was only able to stay 1 night (at the Guest House Pucic – $68 CAD), as I had to make my way to Venice to catch a flight. Anyways, here is a run down of Rovinj, Croatia.
As I was following the coast of Northern Croatia, it is a coastal picturesque Istrian fishing harbor. There are 14 islands surrounding Rovinj, however I only visited one (Sveta Katarina). The town itself is very unique as it is interlaced with Italian influence, also making Italian the second language. Seeing as it is so close to Italy, it was also a settlement of Venetian tribes, before being captured by the Romans. Since being captured by the Romans, the town/county had been ruled by many different empires and Kingdoms until reaching Croatia’s independence in 1991.
Rovinj is situated by the sea, on a hilly peninsula. Its colorful houses rise from the sea, while the streets are full of color, art galleries, bars and restaurants. Its beauty is so inspiring, the only way to really understand it is to experience it. It’s full of life, as the town just radiates happiness – the truest form of la dolce vita, outside of Italy. I loved every minute of Rovinj, and hope to return soon!

Saint Euphemia Cathedral: Built in 1736. Originally dedicated to Saint George, – the present building is dedicated to Euphemia. The church contains several treasures and works of art. The bell tower resembles the tower of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice.
